Chorus Levels — Music Exploration Class
CURRICULUM
The MUSIC EXPLORATION class is our program designed for children in 1st grade. The children explore a wide variety of participatory activities to foster musical growth, including speech, movement, song, and instruments. The repertoire of folk-based songs, games, and movement activities helps the children develop skills to learn through group instruction and supports cognitive learning. The children develop an increased ability to listen with discernment, use musical terms such as fast/slow, high/low, shorter/longer, soft/loud, and experience the rhythmic elements of beat and tempo. While singing alone and with the group, the children develop vocal control and good breathing habits, and expand their vocal range. Rhythmic notation and pitch syllables will be introduced once the majority of the children demonstrate beat competence and the ability to sing in tune.
