Join Us – Audition Information
The Santa Barbara Children's Chorus is a multi-level,
comprehensive vocal music education program for children with unchanged
(treble) voices entering Kindergarten through the 12th grade. Membership
in the chorus is open to all children regardless of ethnic, religious
or economic background.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DIVISION:
Kindergarten—1st Grade
We welcome our youngest participants
into our singing, rhythm & movement based Music Exploration
class.
- No audition is necessary.
- Two classes are offered each fall and spring
with each class limited to 15 choristers.
- There are no outside performance or fundraising
commitments.
- Enroll by returning the registration
form and $25 registration fee. The tuition of $100 may also
be sent at this time or paid within the first 2 weeks of
the 12-week session.

Children will be placed in one of the
following chorus levels according to age and musical experience.
- Jubilate~
Preparatory Choir: NO AUDITION IS NECESSARY: All 2nd &
3rd grade children. Enroll by returning the registration
form, $100 yearly registration fee and $60 uniform fee to
reserve placement.
- Bel
Canto ~ Intermediate I Choir: 4th-7th Grade
~ By Audition
- Lyrique ~
Intermediate II Choir: 5th-9th Grade ~ By Audition and promotion
- Cantabile ~ Advanced Choir: 6th-12th Grade
~ By promotion only

PLACEMENT INTERVIEWS
Placement Interviews for 4th-12th grade students
are held to evaluate proper chorus level and musicianship class
placement to ensure a successful experience for each child. No formal
music training experience is necessary. The majority of new auditionees
will be placed in the Intermediate I, Bel Canto Choir.
- Primary interviews are held at the end of May
each year for the following season beginning in September. Subsequent
limited interviews will be held in the fall and in the winter.
- The interview will take about 10-15 minutes and
will be conducted privately with the artistic staff, chorister
and parent.
- The interview consists of an meeting: simple vocal
exercises demonstrated by the director, a check for pitch accuracy,
and evaluation of the vocal range for part placement. Additionally,
each child will complete a written music theory assessment to
assist us in musicianship class placement.

- Please bring a completed registration form to
your interview. The yearly registration fee of $50 and a uniform
fee will be due upon acceptance into the Santa Barbara Children's
Chorus.
